Abstract:
The 4th instar larvae of Pectinophora gossipiella were treated with different concentrations of polytrin-c. The LD50 dose was evaluated to be 1.2 ppm by the method of probit analysis. Two sub-lethal doses of 425 and .85 ppm and a slightly higher dose of 1.7 ppm were selected for treatment to judge the changes in the total body proteins and glucose contents. The changes in the total body proteins and glucose contents were noted after 6, 12. 18 and 24 hours of treatment. The treated values were compared to the untreated and acetone treated controls. The untreated control had 6.554 pg/100 mg while the acetone control had 3.903 ug/100 mg total body proteins. Treatments with 0.425. 0.85 and 1.7 ppm all showed an increase in the protein level after first 6 hours of the treatment but after that the protein amount fluctuated. After 24 hours an overall increase was noted though it was not found significant. The glucose level of the untreated control was 9.479 V 00 mg and that of the acetone treated control was 10.293 p V 00 mg. 0.425, 0.85 and 1.7 ppm of doses gave an initial elevation in glucose level after the first 6 hours of treatment and then fluctuated for the rest of the experimental time.
