Abstract:
The production of sugar from fruit wastes such as orange, musambi, apple, pine apple, etc, by simple diffusion with water, chemical hydrolysis with HCl and subsequent fermentation with Trichoderma viride, was studied. The yield of sugar from musambi was the highest before and after hydrolysis with HCl. It was 2.92% and 7.3% respectively. The yield could be increased by further treatment of acid treated musambi peels by fermentation with Trichoderma viride. The sugar potential of Pakistan fruit wastes produced per annum was calculated. It was concluded that significant potential of sugar production from wastes exists in Pakistan.
