Abstract:
The effect of amending soil with cattle, pigeon, poultry, quail, rabbit and sheep manures to control the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne javanica infecting okra plants was studied. All organic amendments suppressed populations of nematodes and fewer root galls per plant were formed, specially at the highest rates of amendments. The average length and fresh weight of shoot and root increased considerably in amended soils. Poultry and quail manures @ 12.5 and pigeon manure @ 7.5% or higher showed phyto-toxicity. Cattle, poultry and sheep manures gave good control of root-knot nematode with increase in growth of okra as compared to other organic amendments.
