Abstract:
The technology for treating chromium waste is available. However, the best system for a particular plant must be deteanined keeping in view factors such as the amount of chromium treated, consumption of rinse water, value, if any, of recovered chemicals, etc. The treatment systems available for disposal of chromium plating waste are (a) destructive, (b) recovery. The destructive methods include: (a) chemical reduction and precipitation, (b) integrated waste treatment system, (c) electrolytic reduction, (d) direct precipitation with barium salts, (e) activated carbon treatment. Recovery methods are: (a) ion exchange, (b) evaporation, (c) electrodialysis.
