Abstract:
The value of total agricultural output has increased from Rs7.711 million to Rsl,30,000 million due to improved irrigation system planned by Wapda. It has developed both surface and ground water resources. In the surface water development projects Guddu Barrage, Rawal Dam, Tanda Dam Chablet Kas lift irrigation schemes and pilot wind mills have been completed at a cost of Rs57 crore. These projects will irrigate an area of 29 lakh acres. Khanpur Dam is constructed across the river Hare, and will irrigate the lands of Hazara, Campbellpur and Rawalpindi. Hub Dam across the river Hub, will fulfil the domestic and industrial needs of Karachi and Lasbela. Its canal system irrigates 84,000 crop acres annually. A hydel power station of 400 KW capacity on Ludko river (Chitral) is completed. Wapda has planned to control salinity. There are 6844 SCARP tube wells working in Punjab and about 1180 in Sind, pumping about S3 MAF of ground water annually for irrigating an area of 5.86 million acres. Wapda has increased the water generating capacity from 119 MW to 1935 MW. In Tarbela two turbines of 110 MW were put into operation to feed the Sind. A gas turbine off the capacity 25 MW was installed at Quetta. The construction of the double circuit Tarbela Burhan at Tarbela was completed. It has transmitted power, from the first four units. During 1974-75, 846 villages were electrified by Wapda.
