Abstract:
Aqueous extracts of the marine alga Stoechospermum marginatum produced significant mortality in the larvae of the root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne javanica), mortality increasing with time elapsed. Dried powder of the alga incorporated into soil @ 0.5, 1.0 and 5.0% wlw induced significant reduction in root-knot development in brinjal plants. Vegetative growth also improved in plants grown in soil amended @ 0.5 and 1.0%, but at 5.0% the plants were weak and their growth was less than in the control, while all seedlings died in soil amended @ 10.0% w/w.
