Abstract:
Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by a non motile rod shaped bacillus (bacteria) called mycobacterium tuberculosis. The usual site of the disease is the lungs but other organs of the body like intestines, bones, joints, kidneys, uterus, meninges etc. may be involved. In short almost all the systems of body may be involved. In all the tubercles two processes go on; the one caseation-destructive and dangerous and the othersclerosis- conservative and healing. Disease is the resultant of three factors the so called etiological triad the organism, host and environment. Tuberculosis is 100% curable provided the diagnosis is made properly. With latest anti TB drugs it takes from 9-12 month for complete cure of disease. It is preventable disease and health education is an important tool in the prevention of disease. As it is socio-economic disease, therefore it can be only cured and eradicated by the efforts of govt. Semi Govt., and voluntary organization.
