Abstract:
The operations that involve in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis consist of synovectomy, tenoplasty(with transfer re-routing or releasing), excision, arthrodesis, and arthroplasty. In this connection, prosthesis is required and calls for a knowledge of wearing and fatigue properties, mechanical design, surface properties, biological life, use of adhesives and special tools etc. The insertion of these prostheses requires an exceptionally high standard of sterility and prophylaxis for infection and thrombo-phlebitic complications.
