Abstract:
This research project was designed to explore the biologically active constituents from Nerium oleander. A new steroid was isolated and purified from chloroform soluble fraction of N. oleander. It was characterized using state of the art spectroscopic techniques including 1D and 2D NMR and mass spectrometry. The isolated compound 1 was identified as 3ß-acetoxy-5, 25 (26) diene, 24 ß hydroxy lanostane. It inhibited lipoxygenase enzyme significantly when compared to Bacailene.
