Abstract:
Pericardium is conical sac-like connected anteriorly upto bulbous arteriosus and with vein entering the sinus venosus posteriorly. The heart consisting the sinus venosus, the auricle, the ventricles and the bulbous arteriosus lies just over the pharynx in the midline. Chambers are connected to each other through apertures. Thin walled sinus venosus receives the blood through ductus cuveiri and hepatic vein which enters into auricle. Trabeculae divide the chamber into small intercommunicating chambers. Muscular ventricle is calibrated with fibres for contraction. Bulbous arteriosus is provided with longitudinal folds of which two are prominent. Four pairs of afferent branchial arteries arise from the dorsal side of the ventral aorta and run into their respective gill arches, 3rd and 4th pairs of the arteries arise from the common root, while 2nd and 1st pairs arise separately. The arteries of the 2nd pair arise from common aperture and 1st pair is formed by the bifurcation of the ventral aorta.
