Abstract:
Total serum protein, albumin and globulins were not significantly affected in the lactating nanny goats receiving a daily oral dose of thyroxine for eight weeks and later also after the withdrawal of the treatment. Total free amino acids were, however, significantly decreased particularly at 4th, 8th and 13th week after the onset of the hormone administration. Among the fractions of free amino acids, only threonine exhibited a significant lowering although other fractions in the kids nursed by T4 treated goats were found in lower amounts compared to the kids of control goats. The results of hormone treated goats and their kids exhibited the hormone's anabolic role in the experiment.
