Abstract:
Poppy has been a very important crop in the eastern part of Mardan district. Because of an international campaign against opium, the government of Pakistan seems to be determined to eliminate poppy cultivation from this area. Agricultural land is the only resource of this area and the people very heavily depend upon poppy cultivation. To combat the cultivation of poppy, it is must to get maximum advantage from the agricultural resources of this area and to suggest alternative suitable cropping pattern. The land resources of the study area and analyses of the cropping pattern geographically are assessed to provide base for grass root agricultural planning. Suitable suggestions have also been made for better use of resources to replace poppy and raise the standard of living of the people.
