Abstract:
Fluorite deposits have been discovered in the Koath and Jhukur-Korangani Mardan localities of Mula-Zahri Range, Khuzdar District, Balochistan, Pakistan. Five veins are found in the Koath locality and six veins are found in Jhukur Mardan locality. The width of individual veins varies from a few centimeters to half a meter, the length varies from 10 meters to 50 meters. The contact of fluorite occurs with a gangue of calcite, filling fractures and cracks in Jurassic Chiltan Limestone. At places, the veins widen out and form lenticular bodies. Some veins branch out into multiple veins. The quantity of fluorite in Koath and Jhukur-Korangani Mardan localities is estimated to contain 60% or more fluorite in the ore bodies and the remaining are gangue minerals like calcite. Chemical analyses indicate that CaF2 content varies from 95.20 to 96.50%. The persistence of fluorite bearing veins at subsurface and under the rock cover is not known. Therefore, the total reserves of fluorite in the Koath and Jhukur-Korangani Mardan localities cannot, at present, be precisely determined, however, the total estimated reserves up to 50-metre depth of Koath and Jhukur-Korangani areas are about 20,000 tons. Mula-Zahri Range have significant potential for further fluorite exploration in the extension and vicinity of Koath and Jhukur-Korangani Mardan locality such as Kil, Chinoka, Bhai Jov, Patham, Hinjiri, Bilawal and Zardak as well as other areas having exposures of Jurassic Chiltan Limestone. Saplao, Siah Koh, Patk, Gazg and Nagau areas seem to be significant for fluorite and iron deposits, located in the vicinity and extension of the known deposits.
