Abstract:
The flora of Pakistan consists of about 7, 000 species, which contain many plants of economic importance. The topographic climatic conditions and geographic situation of the country is such, that many of the foreign plants of the economic importance can be introduced. Attention had been focussed on the medicinal plants. Botanical name with important synonyms, vernacular names, taxonomical characteristics, habit and distribution, uses of the different parts of the plants, chemical constituents, pharmaco dynamic properties of chemically active principles and finally production and commerce, which includes methods of collection, processing and cultivation of commercially useful plants have been described. Useful plants described, include nine genera of about 85 species of family cycadaceae, nine genera and about 200 species of Pinnaceae, 85 genera of about 125 species of family Cupressaceae. In case of family Taxaceae 8 species distributed throughout the northern sphere are given some times different species are considered the various varieties of the same species. The genera contains about 35 species in family Ephedraceae.
