Abstract:
The use of heterosis for the production of hybrid tobacco was suggested. Heterosis, on large scale would depend upon the superiority of the hybrids and cost of production of seeds. The hybrid grew faster than either parent. F. hybrids exhibited 5.76 t earliness, 39.9 % in plant height, 7.7 % in leaf per plant, 12 % in leaf length, 10.65 % in leaf breadth over the mid parents. An increase of 8.31 % to 15.25 % over parents in yield regardless of increase in quality or earliness is enough to cover the cost of producing hybrid seed.
