Abstract:
It is observed that majority of patients with breast cancer, by the time definitive treatment is started have developed advanced disease (either locally advanced or metastatic). A study was conducted in order to evaluate the causes of delay and to find out the average length of period of delay (including both patient delay as well as providers delay). From January 2000 to December 2003 , "273 cases of breast cancer" , who fulfil the criteria , were interviewed , data were analyzed. Median "patient delay" for patient from Lahore district was 3-4 months and providers delay was 31 days , Median "patient delay" for patient from All districts other than Lahore was 7-8 months and providers delay was 43 days. It was found that non availability of treatment of cancer at peripheral areas is major cause of delay.
