Abstract:
For the development of Neurosurgical advances in Pakistan, it is necessary to address the neurological burden that resides in rural areas of Pakistan. To overcome this, the author had done nineteen surgical camps with Total distance 149757.6 km2, with the support of Government of Pakistan.Total number of 1793 patients were assessed with 47% male and 53% females and mostly have age >16 (54%). The most common case in rural areas of Sindh was Non-specific headache (20.18%), Degenerative Disk disease (15.95%), Allergic/ Sinusitis (15.67%), Psyche (14.11%), Epilepsy (11.99%) and Hydrocephalus (9.53%). The city wise data was also explored in this article. 16.45% patients required immediate surgical intervention, out of which 42.37% were the cases of Hydrocephlus and 30% cases were DDD. Out of which 13.89% Surgeries was done in remote areas with most cases of hydrocephalus (53.65%).There should be large community surveys to be done to explore the burden of neurosurgical conditions in Sindh.
