Air pollution - a creeping suffocation.

Abstract:
Air pollution is caused largely by burning. The leftover waste from burning goes into the air. It comes from the incinerators from burning trash piles and refuse graveyards, from mills and power plants, oil refineries and soap factories, car, truck, train, bus and rickshaw engines. In air, many different kinds of waste and gases float about. They are acted upon by sunlight and they interact with one another to form new pollutants. In urban centres, air pollution may be responsible for up to 20% to lung cancer and 50% air pollution is spewed out by cars. Big cities of Pakistan such as Karachi, Lahore, Lyallpur and Hyderabad pose dangers due to environmental pollution. There is an urgent need to set up efficient monitoring stations for determining air pollution, effects of specific pollutants and permit the effects and adequacy of control measures to be assessed.
