Abstract:
On the basis of the T. 3. Prevalence Survey carried out in the country, using tuberculin test, X-Ray examination and bacteriological examination, a study was undertaken in the province of Baluchistan in 1982-83. The survey covered a representative sample of 3752 persons who were examined by means of the tubirculin test, chest X-ray and examination of sputum on direct smear for A. F. 3. of persons reporting cough or having an abnormal chest X-ray. Tuberculin testing revealed 32. 22% of the population to be infected as compared to the nation-wide figure of 54. 4%. This shows the infection rate to be lower in the province as compared to the rest of the country. However, the proportion of infected children was higher than the national ratio, even in the younger age group 0-4 years.
