Abstract:
A varietal trial consisting of five varieties, Naswari, Motihari, Dodar, Nasiatica and Local Tarnab of rustica tobacco was conducted at Tarnab, Sarai Naurangiand D.I. Khan from 1973 to 1976. Results showed that variety Local Tarnab gave the highest yield of 1213 kg per hectare and 610 kg Top grade on the average. Next variety was Naswari which yielded 1143 kg cured leaf and 596 kg/ha. top grade. The poor yielding variety was N. asiatica. It can be concluded from this study that variety Local Tarnab or rustica tobacco has given high yields of cured and top-grades leaf at all the three locations during the four crop years. Variety Naswari is the second high yielding good quality local tobacco variety. Tarnab was the best place for raising local tobacco crop as all varieties have given higher yields at the locations in comparison with the other two locations.
