Abstract:
It Suggests a heuristic approach to the problem of optimality of sampling with a view to the demonstration of pattern in vegetation. It is shown °that the sampling effort can be minimized by restricting the species data recording procedure to that subset of the total species in the study area which have greater ability to reveal pattern. Such species can be identified by a species weighting algorithm. The elimination of species with larger random component permits a more clear resolution of group structure and trends in vegetation.
