Abstract:
Fifty sunflower cultivars were evaluated for their response to charcoal rot (Macrophornina phaseolina) under natural conditions. The study revealed that there were great differences among the cultivars in the degree of resistance or susceptibility to charcoal rot. The early maturing cultivars like HS-90, Sorem82, GH-20 and Cosmeramia were highly susceptible. The cultivars like Vniimk, NS-H-33, Elliodaro and Golden Harvest were found to be promising with less than 20 percent plants killed. Differences in the disease response of Vniimk, NS-H-33. Elliodaro and Golden Harvest were highly significant from HS-90, GH-20 and Olga as shown by the Duncan's Muliple Range Test at 0.05 level.
