Abstract:
The problem discussed in this paper deals with critical waterway required for bridges on gravel rivers, which is closely associated with complexities of loose boundary hydraulics. Till today numerous empirical formulae for water way/length of bridges constructed on alluvial rivers have been suggested by various investigations. But very little has been done with regard to bridges on graval rivers. The field data of seven Canadian rivers (eight stable reaches) has been analysed and an empirical formula for water way/length of bridges on gravel rivers has been developed, which will be a design tool for practicing engineers.
