Abstract:
The incidence of vesicular-arbuscular -(VA) mycorrhizae in roots and Endogonaceous spores in rhizosphere soils of 80 host species belonging to 30 families from Multan and Bahawalpur Division was investigaged. VA mycorrhizae were of general occurrence in all plants examined except three species: Fumaria indica, Delbergia sissoo and Tamarix sp. The proportion of roots colonised by VA mycorrhizal fungi ranged between 50-100% in 62% of the host species, 2-49% in the remaining species. Spores of three species of Endogonaceae (G. mosseae, Glomus macrocarpus var macrocarpus, Acaulospora laevis) were frequently distributed in soil samples collected. G. mosseae were abundant in comparison to the remaining two species. Two to three types of fungal endophyte were observed in roots.
