Abstract:
Anaerobic degradation of buffalo dung mixed with sun dried, powdered trifolium resupinatum (Shaftal) was carried out under both the mesophilic (35°C) and thermophilic (45°C) temperatures over the period of 45 days, in a laboratory scale (5 litre) digester bottle. At 35°C, the maximum production of biogas (4-6 litres/day) was observed with pH 7. 2 of the slurry and 70 percent methane content from day 13 to 23. The ideal period for the maximum production of biogas at 45°C was from day 14 to 24 with an average 6. 2 litres/day of biogas at pH 7. 15 of slurry.
