To Determine the Frequency of Intraventricular Hemorrhage among Preterm Neonates at a Tertiary Care Hospital

Abstract:
Aim: To determine the frequency of intraventricular hemorrhage among preterm neonates at a tertiary care hospital It is descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in department of Pediatric medicine, Nishtar Hospital, Multan from 10-04-2019 to 10-10-2019 i.e. for six months. Methodology: A total of 196 preterm neonates were included in study. USG was done at 1st day to diagnose IVH. Results: Of these 196 cases, 128(65.3 %) were males while 68(34.7 %) were females. Mean gestational age was 31.3 ± 3.2 weeks while 104(53.1%) cases had gestational age upto 32 weeks. 83(42.3%) were delivered by cesarean section while 113(57.7%) were delivered vaginally. Breach presentation was noted in 38 (19.4%) cases. Prolonged labor was noted in 53(27%) and resuscitation at the time of birth was noted in 84 (42.9%) cases. Intraventricular hemorrhage was noted in 44 (22.4%) cases. Conclusion: High frequency of intraventricular hemorrhage was seen among pre term neonates in this study. Intraventricular hemorrhage was significantly associated with male gender, breach presentation and low birth weight.
