Abstract:
Chlorfenapyr is a widely used insecticide. Despite its use, human poisoning data is not sufficient and has been rarely reported. Chlorfenapyr interferes with oxidative phosphorylation at mitochondrial level thus depriving the target organism of energy and causing death. Sign and symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever and central nervous system effects with delayed neurotoxicity. It is converted into active metabolite after some time which may be responsible for delayed neurological symptoms. This is a case report of accidental poisoning of Chlorfenapyr in children who presented about ten days after ingestion with neurological symptoms and white matter changes on MRI.
