Abstract:
Radiation technology now contributes more than 420 billion US $ to the US economy and provide over 4.4 million jobs as quoted by Alan E. Walter in his book entitled "Radiation and modem life" year of publication 2004. This amply speaks for its pronounced impact in revolutionizing cable and wire, rubber tyres, foams, pharmaceutical, agriculture, environmental protection safety and all major industries. Application and innovative aspects of radiation processing in these industries have been reviewed with particular emphasis on those relevant to our economy. At a time when our dependency on foreign oil makes us vulnerable and in view of paucity of fossil fuel, we need to learn about radiation technology more than ever. Remarkable is its energy conservation. The review sets out to elaborate how it benefits our daily lives. As the technology has made a serious dent in the industries utilizing chemicals and heat, comparative merits are outlined wherever feasible.
