Abstract:
Reduced germination and stand establishment is the main problem in dropping the plant population of tomato cultivars in Pakistan. An experiment was conducted to improve the germination and seedling growth of two tomato cultivars Roma and Nagina. The seeds were treated with hormones at the ratio of 50, 100,150 ppm GA3, Kinetin and Salicylic acid for 24 K The seeds treated with hormones significantly affected germination and emergence attributes of both tomato cultivars. Seed treated with 150 ppm salicylic acid followed by 100 ppm GA3 and 100 ppm kinetin maximally improved germination rate of both tomato cultivars as indicated by lower values of T50 and MGT as compared to control and other seed treatments. Moreover priming with 150 ppm salicylic acid, 100 ppm GA3 and 100 ppm kinetin also improved seedling growth, which is attributed to higher chlorophyll contents of both tomato cultivars. establishment
