Abstract:
Summary: In this paper, an environmentally friendly method, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based enzyme-assisted ultrasonic extraction (EAUE) was employed in chlorogenic acid (CGA) extraction from Lonicerae japonica leaves. The extraction procedure was optimized, validated and compared extraction yield with that of other conventional extraction techniques. As for the optimal extraction conditions, results obtained showed: 42% of PEG concentration; 49 oC of extraction temperature; and pH 4.2, which supported a experimental extraction yield of 6.955%, and it was very close to the predicted values of 6.964%. Compared with heat-reflux extraction, PEG-based EAUE contributed to a higher extraction efficiency of CGA from Lonicerae japonica.
