Abstract:
Pilgrim (1938) assigned a hornless skull, a left maxilla and an isolated horn-core to a new species Pachyportax nagrii from the middle Siwaliks making hornless skull as the type specimen. According to Gentry (1974) “Pachyportax nagrii” is a species of only doubtful validity having a holotype hornless female cranium. A newly discovered left maxilla having M1-3 from the Middle Siwaliks of Hasnot, district Jhelum, Punjab, Pakistan compares very favourably with referred maxilla of Pachyportax that is Pachyportax nagrii which is smaller in size from Pachyportax latidens and Pachyportax giganteous.  We do not agree with Gentry (1974) that Pachyportax nagrii is a species of only doubtful value. We have, therefore, referred the newly discovered left maxilla to Pachyportax nagrii and that is convincingly different from Pachyportax latidens for the reasons presented in the diagnosis.
