Abstract:
The present survey was carried out in May-July 2000 in Barani tract of Rawalpindi and Chakwal districts of Punjab. In total 100 groundnut growers were interviewed. The purpose of the survey was to find out the profitability of groundnut production in barani area; using different parameters. The results indicated that groundnut is a profitable enterprise and there is great potential for this crop in arid areas of Punjab. What is required is to provide necessary inputs to the farmers and explore new markets for groundnut in the country. The import bill of edible oils can be minimized by creating awareness among farmers about groundnut cultivation and using its oil wherever possible.
