Abstract:
Fractures in the Siwalik sediments were studied to assess their distribution with regard to lithology and faults. Field studies reveal the extent to which movement on faults has been resisted by the frictional strength of sandstones; indicating variation in effective stresses and the effect of burial of rocks in between two adjacent faults. Relations between frequency of fractures and bed thickness, grain size (lithology) and distance from faults were determined.
