Abstract:
The non-histone chromosomal protein (NHCP) extracted from testis. Leydig cells, seminiferous tubules, epididymis, prostate and liver were resolved reproducibly into 15-20 specific bands. The comparison of the electrophorogram showed heterogeneity and tissue specificity of the various molecular species identified as high molecular weight, medium molecular weight and low weight proteins were synthesized at the time of maturity. Also a number of NHCP were identified and shown to be associated only with the immature tissues. There were other bands present both in the mature and, immature tissues indicating the stability of these proteins throughout the development of the tissues. The changes in the NHCP have been interpreted in terms of the activation of the genome throughout the period of development of the tissues.
