Abstract:
An assessment of nematode problems of pomegranate revealed that Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica out of the twelve plant nematode genera encountered were most widespread and prevalent, and seriously affected plants in nurseries and orchards in different areas of Libya. Application of systemic nematicides, such as, fenamiphos, oxamyl, and aldicarb, at various dosages in two orchards provided protection to roots for 60 days against nematode invasion and development of root galls. After 60 days roots became galled but the amount of galling was low. Soil population densities of juveniles also declined. Yield of fruits obtained showed improvement in comparison to nontreated trees, but this increase was not significant. Application of these systemic nematicides particularly at high dosages, is suggested as a partial remedy of root-knot nematode problems in established orchards.
