Abstract:
Selected wheat varieties grown in NWFP Pakistan during the crop year 1996-97 and 1997-98 were analysed for their proximate composition and amino acid contents. Significant variation of crop years and varieties was observed for moisture, crude protein, crude fat, ash and NFE. The interaction was also observed significant (p £0.05) for all the above mentioned mentioned parameters except for crude protein. The mean aspartic acid, serine, glutamic acid, glycine, alanine, cystine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, phenyl alanine, tyrosine, lysine and arginine contents of all the varieties of the crop year 1996-97 were 5.41, 3.08, 8.35, 3.4, 2.83, 2.93, 4.34, 2.06, 1.69, 6.32, 3.13, 3.06, 1.60 and 3.34 respectively and for the year 1997-98, the respective mean values for all the wheat varieties were 7.12, 3.18, 10.96, 3.24, 2.9, 2.17, 4.36, 2.08, 1.83, 6.84, 4.99, 3.25, 1.71 and 3.61% respectively. The inter-varietals differences with respect to different amino acids reflect the influence of genotype on the contents of different amino acids. Amino acids were also influenced by the crop year.
