Abstract:
The present study was carried out to test the water management practices to avoid water losses. Extensive surveys were made in different fields of maize, in four districts (Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal & Pakpattan) of Punjab involving irrigational use of water (IUW). Two modified methods of irrigation were used: wise use of water (WUW) and efficient use of water (EUW). Water loss was calculated by measuring water used in experiments, field and future loss was projected by the same area of land in acres. Results showed a large amount of water loss while in IUW than that in WUW (84.24%) and EUW (92.11%). Experiments proved that there was no significant difference of plant biomass in both the irrigation methods. This study may help in policy intervention, for saving water by major stakeholders (farmers) and gaining proper yield.
