Abstract:
A method is described for obtaining surface longitudinal wave characteristics by treating the surface waves as a mixture of longitudinal and transverse waves. The frequency dependence of the wave number is as expected from the theory of longitudinal waves, and the values of surface elastic modulus are close to the values measured independently from the surface pressure-area curves.
