Abstract:
Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was grown under improved management conditions with 2 levels of N, P and 3 levels of irrigation alongwith rainfed (barani) treatment. Randomized complete block design includes N, P levels of 56-28 and 112-56 kg/ha and 3, 2 and 1 irrigations. Irrigations were optimally sequenced with important crop growth stages as indicated by prior research studies in Pakistan. The rainfed treatment was managed uinder zero run-off and run-on conditions, where all the incident rainfall was stored in the soil profile. The resulting water use-yield functions indicate that yield is statistically insignificant between different moisture and fertility combinations. However, with two irrigations at tillering and booting stages under 112-56 (N, P) kg/ha additional yield of 610 kg/ha was obtained as compared to barani treatments where yield of 4535 kg/ha was obtained under improved methods of rain moisture conservations.
