A new record of Pseudomonas syringae pv. sesami in Pakistan and sources of resistance.

Abstract:
Bacterial blight of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) was found at National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad during kharif (July-September) of 1984. On the basis of biochemical, physiological and pathological reactions, the pathogen was identified as Pseudomonas syringae pv. sesami for the first time on this crop from Pakistan. Of the 50 genotypes (local and exotic) evaluated under natural epiphytotic conditions, eight namely, 'K-179’,'K-282','V-49-38','L-32'.’P-3','P-4','P-87' and 'P-96' proved moderately resistant to the pathogen.
