Abstract:
Petrochemistry of the Thak Valley igneous complex is discussed on the basis of 13 first-ever rock analyses. Variation diagrams and comparison with world igneous complexes of known lineage show that the Thak valley complex represents a differentiated intrusion of a tholeiitic basalt parentage. The extent of chemical variation and trend of iron enrichment of the Thak valley rocks encompasses those of .similar rocks from the upper Swat and the Askore-Twar areas belonging to the so-called Indus ophiolite belt, NW Him`alayas. The present article aims at presenting a petrochemical treatment of the Thak valley igneous complex and compares it with other occurrences. A study of minor ore minerals is presented separately.
