Abstract:
Different aspects of bait shyness have been studied in house rat, Rattus rattus rufescens. The magnitude of bait shyness depends on the number of days of exposure to the acute poison. Association of zone phosphide poison with food materials is necessary to induce bait shyness. The rat learns to avoid the harmful food, when it consumes the same orally with bait materials. Bait shyness persists in rat for 45 days, but it can be prolonged upto 65 days by successive providing of carrier bait.
