Abstract:
Agricultural and livestock sector perform major role in generating economic existential of any agricultural country. The aim of this research was two investigate the factors afecting low participation of rural community in agriculture and livestock. The present study was conducted in three villages 226 RB, 225 RB Malkhanwala and Prokianwala 214 RB Faisalabad, Punjab Pakistan. Agriculture and livestock are considered crucial industries in any nation; however, in Pakistan, the agricultural sector is the economic backbone of the country. Because the vast majority of Pakistan's population is directly and indirectly associated with this industry, it makes a significant contribution to the country's GDP. Despite this, Pakistan is still struggling with a declining rate of the participation of rural communities in the agricultural and livestock sectors for economic development. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that afect the low participation of rural communities in the agriculture and livestock industries and to provide insightful recommendations to decision-makers. Multistage sampling technique was applied in the study. Faisalabad division was selected from Punjab. A sample of 300 respondents was selected by using convenience sampling technique. The data were collected using an interview schedule from the respondents who belonged to both agricultural as well as livestock sectors. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The present study discovered several factors behind the decreasing rate of participation of rural communities in these two sectors. Almost 34% respondents agreed with the statement that natural disasters were the main reason behind lack of participation and 65 % respondents were agree that lack of technological development was the major reason behind low participation. About 74% respondents were of the opinion that lack of education and awareness regarding modern methods in both agriculture and livestock sector were the main reason of low participation of people in these sectors. 75% respondents were agree that shortage of water and 58.3% respondents said that high price feetilizers were the major factors behind lack of participation. 75% respondents told that political instability was the major cause of low participation while 68.7% respondents agreed upon the statement that low profit margin was a factor of low participation in livestock and agriculture sector.The study suggested that the Government needed to establish agricultural welfare institutions in which all agriculture & livestock sector-related problems such as easy access to market, interest free loans schemes for people who are associated with these sectors, water shortage issues and others should be solved.
