Abstract:
Laboratory studies were carried out to determine relative susceptibility of a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide-fenvalerate against a susceptible and a malathion-resistant strain of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.). Pesticides were tested through topical application. LD50 values for the susceptible and the resistant strains against malathion were 0.52Pg and 0.217 Ng respectively. On the other hand LD50 values for the same two strains against fenvalerate were 0.099 Pg and 0.199 Pg respectively. The resistance factor of 4.17 was obtained in case of malathion whereas it was 2.01 for fenvalerate. This revealed low level of resistance against both contact insecticides.
