Abstract:
Effect of synthetic saline waters having added concentration of 4, 8, 12 and 16 me/1 of NaCl, Na2 SO4and NaHCO3 in canal water on wheat production and its quality was studied in earthen glazed posts filled with normal silty clay loam soil. It was found that with the use of saline waters, the germination percentage and number of tillers were not affected significantly. Height of the plant, 100 grains weight, total dry matter, grain and straw yields and total protein of the grain increased consistently with NaCl and Na2 SO4 and inversely with NaHCO3 with their increasing concentrations crude protein of the grain increased regressively with NaCl and Na2S04 and progressively with NaHCO3 with the rise in their concentrations.
