Violance against women: Media representation of violant issues in the perspective of Pakistan.

Abstract:
Violence against women has become an important and debatable issue all over the world after the arrival of feminism and feminist ideology. The present research is conducted to study the role of media in the reporting of problematic and chronic issues of violence against women in Pakistan. Data is collected from two most popular News networks of Pakistan, one is Dawn News and the second is Express News. Content analysis of broadcasted news reports of violence against women in Pakistan during the period from January, 2013 to April, 2013 is done. The objective of this descriptive and analytical study is to explore the positive / negative role of popular media in the protection of rights of women or in violence against women in Pakistan. The Universe for the present study is the most popular media of Pakistan. The technique of systematic sampling is used. By using SPSS the descriptive method is used to represent the findings of the research the relationship among the data collected is also explored through statistical methods. The hypothesis about these phenomenon and linkages among them are tested through chi-square test. The findings of the study reveal that the most popular news channels of Pakistan portray the issues of violence against women in a biased way. It is revealed that media usually give a very little space in their daily news broadcasts to the problematic issues of women, which are the main reason of violence against women in Pakistan.
