Abstract:
Alnus nitida is a large tree of 30 m. height and one m. dbh. It grows on the banks of streams and on the moist places of Hazara, Swat and Azad Kashmir. Its seeds were sown in 3 different plots, at the place of Abbottabad in 1977. Five hundred seeds were sown in each plot. The number of seedlings germinated in the pure sand plot was 400 and its germination was 80%; plot containing 50% sand, 501 nursery soil, contained 335 seedlings and its germination was 67% and the plot having nursery soil acquired 335 seedlings and its germination was 65%.
