Abstract:
The effect of seven different relative humidities such as 8,38,51,75,85,97 and 99% was studied on survival and body weight loss of Tribolium castaneum adults under starvation conditions at 30°C. Beetles lost their maximum weight at 8% relative humidity and the minimum at 99%. This loss decreased gradually with the gradual increase of humidity. The adults kept in groups of 20 lost the minimum body weight followed by those of 10, 5 and single. The best survival was obtained at 75% r.h. Of different groups studied, adults in group of 10 manifested the longest survival at all relative humidities than others. This could be attributed to their "group effect".
