Abstract:
Cholistan is a vast desert covering about 26000 sq.km. in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The area of the desert is one of the driest and hottest in the country. The main problem of the desert is water scarcity and water for drinking of human and livestock is not available because there is no any source of fresh water e.g. canal, river etc. The ground water is mostly saline. About 17% area of Cholistan desert is consisting of fine textured soils that can be used as a catchment area for rainwater harvesting and collection during moon-soon season for fresh water resource development to meet the requirement of drinking water.31.432.3 Leaching
