Abstract:
The isolation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens was made from the young tumors from Punica granatum and Malus pumilo (Pyrus malus). Four isolates PGI, PG2, MP1, MP2 were obtained with the required characters. They do differ in size of colonies but almost resemble in the colour of the colonies. They do vary in shape and arrangement but all isolates without exception were motile rods. All isolates i.e., PG1, PG2, MP1, MP2, showed + ve(positive) reaction for 3-ketolactose production. In biochemical characters all isolates showed very little variation. In explant and intact plants all isolates were successful in inducing tumors.
